Dr. John P. Jacobi, O.D., FCOVD, FIALVS

Dr. John P. Jacobi has devoted his career to helping patients who’ve been told, “There’s nothing more we can do.” He is a nationally recognized low vision specialist, binocular vision expert, and patient advocate. With over 36 years of clinical experience, he has empowered thousands of individuals living with low vision to read, drive, work, and live with confidence.

Dr. Jacobi began his career in private practice and spent decades building a multi-doctor clinic in Livonia, MI. As the former owner and Clinical Director of Suburban Eye Care, he helped grow the practice by adding multiple specialties, including:

• Low vision rehabilitation

• Binocular vision therapy

• Syntonic phototherapy

• Myopia management & CRT

• Scleral lens fitting

• Advanced dry eye diagnosis and treatment

• Neuro-optometric rehabilitation for mTBI and stroke

• Vertical disparity correction

Dr. Jacobi’s approach to optometry has always been rooted in meaningful impact, helping patients stay mobile, independent, and engaged in the lives they love. Today, he focuses exclusively on low vision care at Beyond Low Vision in Novi, MI, one of the few clinics in the state dedicated entirely to helping visually impaired patients find practical, hands-free solutions.

Dr. Jacobi has presented extensively across Southeast Michigan and remains passionate about community education through his Vision Education Series for seniors and caregivers.

Beyond patient care, Dr. Jacobi is committed to mentoring the next generation of optometrists. He teaches that clinical excellence and specialty care are not just fulfilling; they’re the foundation of private practice success. His major objectives in mentorship include:

Outside the Office

Dr. Jacobi is a husband, father of four, and lifelong learner. His personal interests include weightlifting, tennis, scuba diving, classic literature, skiing, boating, and exploring the outdoors, often alongside his 12-pound dog, who clearly thinks he’s much larger.
